Les Miserables

I went to see Les Mis last Wednesday night with Shauna. I went to the movie knowing very little about the story line, but knowing that this movie was a classic. I knew this story was worth experiencing, and besides I have a fairly deep passion for musicals. Really, I didn't know what I was walking into, but both Shauna and I were very excited! What a story line though. This movie is about redemption, and God's grace. God has shown us mercy, so we must then show mercy to others. Is there a more beautiful story than the sacrifice of Christ? We have earthly fathers and mothers who have shown us sacrifice, and that is beautiful too, but still nothing in comparison to the sacrifice God made when he sent his son to die for our sins. Les Mis is a story about a mother who sacrifices her life for her daughter, and a father who sacrifices his life for his daughter's happiness. Literally the entire movie is based on the redemptive nature of Christ, that if you fall short, you can try again. The music is beyond beautiful, and the ending left me in tears. I apologize for this movie critique I write, but the movie was powerful and more richly beautiful than I knew it would be. If you are not a fan of musicals then this movie might be hard to sit through for you. However if you do, go see this movie in the theater. I don't think you will regret your decision to do so.

My Day After Christmas

My little schnookum bear and I

 Malachi liked Luke!

Pedis with my fam

Christmas was so nice this year. As it is every year. Our traditions are so fun, but part of me looks forward to the time when I have a family of my own someday and we create our own traditions. My family is so busy the morning of Christmas. We all take turns watching each other open presents, and then once the presents are all unwrapped we make a nice brunch. This year a new tradition was started with breakfast. Instead of sticking the store bought cinnamon rolls in the oven, I was asked to make them. It's one of my specialties... and by one of them I mean my only specialty. My cinnamon rolls are nice with the maple espresso frosting I drizzle over the top of them (always makes me think of Cathy when I make them). A favorite of the family. After the brunch we went to my Aunt Annie's house for a nice dinner and time with my cousins and Grandpa. We came back to the house to open stocking stuffers and watch "White Christmas." I even got a visit from a special someone that made my Christmas that much more special. I think next year Christmas will be all about Malachi though, he's going to be such a big boy next Christmas!

Christmas was such a great day but the day after Christmas was such a fun day. One of the most fun days I've had in awhile. I woke up, enjoyed some coffee, did some cleaning and organizing and then met my friend Mel for a little New Year's Eve shopping. While at Nordstrom (where I found my dress) I ran into this really cute guy wearing a brand new pair of Christmas Chuck Taylors. After the perfect dress was found, I went to meet my friend Shauna to see "Les Miserables." AMAZING! I will tell you about my review later this week (Because I know you are all dying to know what I think...) After the movie I went to sleep knowing that I would be waking up to get a pedicure in the morning with my mom, aunt and cousin. What a great day! A day of no worries.

My Favorite Gifts:

* Michael bought me a dress from Nordstrom that I really wanted- However I did not tell him to get it for me. He went back to Nordstrom all on his own to buy it. SO sweet.

*Shopping money (classic)

*Curling iron/ Hair dryer

*Leather Jacket

*Baking Box- pie pan, spatula

*Date Night Out Gift Cards

*Makeup

My Time at Portland State University

My time at Portland State was a time of great growth for me. I learned so much about myself and my abilities. I started trusting myself more, and I poured myself into studying and reading. I grew in excitement at the idea of getting a "big girl" job and so I worked even harder as the terms continued. I made new friends, and was taught so much through the relationships I have grown. I owe any success I have achieved to God for showing me grace, and taking provision over my life. My years in college started out a little rocky, and there were multiple times I thought I was going to give up. However, I had made up my mind to graduate, and graduate I did. Thank you to my friends and family for praying for me/ with me, and for your constant encouragement.

Senior Year

My senior year I was working on staff with Young Life for high school in Corvallis. I spent a good amount of time in Corvallis High, trying to get teenagers to think I was cool enough to hang out with. The problem was... I wasn't cool. At least not to their standards anyways. I didn't support drinking, I didn't support partying, I didn't support skipping school, or missing curfew, but I also understood why they wanted these things because I had been there. I had done these exact things when I was in high school. It made me relateable I guess you could say. I could come to these kids with the same brokenness they were experiencing and I could tell them of the healing that this guy Jesus provides. I think this was one of those classic times where the kids showed me and taught me more than I felt I was teaching them. I learned that to gain the trust of these teenagers, I had to be consistent in their lives as they did not have the same consistency in their own homes. It was a tough year, and at times I did feel drained. But aside from Young Life, this was the year my brother got married, and the year I decided that transferring to Portland State was what was in my best interest. I knew saying goodbye to Corvallis would be sad. My house, the friendships, my roommates, my ministry would be memories. I would have to build my life again but in Portland. Portland meant family though, so I knew I would make it through.

Junior Year

My Junior year was my favorite year in college BY FAR. I had just gotten home from Summer Staff, and I now had a ton of new friends who lived in Corvallis and were Jesus followers. This was the year that I started leading high school Young Life in Corvallis, and met phenomenal girls who I had the privilege to take to camp. This was the year that I moved into the 447 house. My favorite house. The house I will always remember and probably force my children to see one day. This was a house where we had family dinners, bon fires in the backyard, and PROM! This was the year that I got into line dancing, and met Shauna through Young Life. I look back on this year, this time and just remember the blessings. It was a year of growth and reliance on the Lord. I will look back on very fond memories of this year. Friends and fellowship.

(Summer Staff with my best friend- Incredible. Even though Danielle would rather meet new people, and I'm better at sticking with who and what I know...)
