My New Nike Dunk Sky Hi's Doe

Nike Dunk Sky Hi 2.0 Joli
Sandal Meets Sneaker

Skirt and Crop Top: H&M

Went to the Nike Employee Store last week (shout out to my friend Justin). Went there wanting to get a new pair of Sportswear type shoes and found these. Still trying to figure out what exactly I am going to wear with these shoes, but I had to take them home with me!! Sandal meets Sneaker. They are so cool looking, but I have to come up with more outfits to justify what I spent.

Anyone have suggestions on what outfits I can rock with these Sky Hi's??? Advice appreciated. Outfit shown in the photo is simply what I wore that day to the store, so I haven't experimented too much yet.

This shoe is such a unique blend of gladiator type sandal and the ever trendy Sneaker Wedge craze. I had to take it home to see what I could do with them.

Complete Tangent Moment: I would love to do fashion blogging for a living... I have so much fun with it. I just never have anyone to take my picture so hence the awkward mirror in my bedroom shots. I need to start making Christina (my roommate) get more involved. I shall promise her wine in return for photos. Plan. Now. In. Motion.

The Results are In... Whole 30

Day Before Whole 30 Started

1/2 Way Point
Day After Whole 30 Ended

I can say that I noticed the most weight loss in my legs, and I am currently training for a half marathon. So the mix of eating better, training and lifting weights made my results more effective (even if you can't tell the difference from day before the diet til now, I can feel the difference)

So here is my conclusion are you ready?? Whole 30 REALLY works. It really truly does. I believe in it. Here is my disclaimer however... I will say that I was not entirely true to the diet after the first two weeks. So here is my break down in two week segments

Day 1-14. I followed the plan pretty rigidly other than a little cream in my coffee and I ate peanut butter instead of almond butter because almond butter is fricken expensive. Those first two weeks, I felt amazing, and had so much pride in my diet and also woke up everyday feeling like I had lost weight. It wasn't easy, but at the same time I was amazed at how well I was coping without sugar and carbs. I am a big bread person. I love crackers, chips, and pretty much anything I can dip. So it was hard to give that up, and I also get a bad sweet tooth at night. So I had to deny my body of that crap and drink tea instead and I felt AMAZING when I would wake up in the morning.

Day 15-30. I really fell off the wagon here because I got so tired of telling my friends I couldn't just go grab food with them, or it made eating with my family harder too. A very hard part of WHOLE 30 is the meal prepping. If I hadn't cooked or prepared food the night before I was in deep trouble the next day going to work because I would have to just snack on almonds all day. It left me feeling hangry orrrr I would cave and go get a wrap or something from Trader Joes.

What I would do differently next time: Meal Prep, Meal Prep, Meal Prep!!! I didn't make it a priority most nights and I should have to be prepared for lunch. Also once you decide to "cheat once" on the diet you might as well just be done with it. You cheat once and you will keep making excuses. So don't do what I did, and really go for it all 30 days!! I want to do this again soon, and see if I can go farther now that I have a little wisdom/ insight.

What I learned the most from this experience: That this doesn't need to just be a 30 day type of challenge. Yes it's good to flush your system and re-set your cravings and all of that but I learned so much more than that. This can be more of a lifestyle change overall! I'm not psycho about my diet by any means (Literally went to the Matador last night and chowed on nachos and margaritas) but I would really like to watch my carb intake and my constant need to satisfy my chocolate cravings. Making eggs in the morning for breakfast with tomato and avocado. Having wayyyy more veggies and cutting down on dairy. These are things I want to pay attention to. Cutting those things out in the first two weeks made me feel amazzzzing. But I am a very social person, and often times I meet people for dinner or drinks or both and I don't want to turn that down. Treating yourself every once in awhile is ok in my mind. Makes quality of living much higher :)

If you are looking to try a diet, I would definitely recommend Whole 30! See how far you can push yourself. Also Instagram has great recipes on there, so follow @whole30recipes. And get ready to eat a lot of sweet potatoes. Let me know if you are interested in this diet and I can share more of what I learned. E-mail me at

Never Lose Sight of Who You Are

What better way of showing self confidence than by a selfie...

Growing up I was raised in a family that is the very definition of supportive. My parents were not the kind that allowed me to do whatever I wanted when I wanted, but yet they allowed creative freedom and permitted any and all dreaming. I was given clear boundaries so I knew what was expected of me and knew the difference between right and wrong. I had the kind of parents that believed in me and my abilities and encouraged my talents.
If ever I got a good grade on a test, or I scored a goal on the soccer field, made it to Districts for Track, when I became Homecoming Princess, or when I graduated college my parents were the first people I would share my life with. They have also been the ones that I go to when hard things find their way to my front door and I need a sounding board or someone to understand my pain with me. Now my parents are the ones that stand at the finish line when I run my half marathons, and they are the ones I go to when I need reminders of my abilities and my blessings.
Do you ever find you lose sight of your talents and skills, or that someone tries to take them away from you? Well I have been there, and I have sat in those lies before. As I get older I get better at reminding myself of my proficiency, but people try to take those truths from you.
My hope is that you have someone in your life that can be what my parents are for me. Someone that gets excited to celebrate victories with you and someone who will empathize with you and pray with you when you aren't sure how to move forward from crippling fear or anxiety.
But never, I mean never lose sight of you who you are and never let someone take from you your self confidence. Life is too short, and I am getting too old for that garbage.

The Crop-Top

South Waterfront: Photo Cred- Kristin Gregory
Top: Nordstrom; Jeans: H&M; Sandals: Target (everyone and their mom has these)

So today is the day where I finally show off the crop-top. This photo was taken a couple weeks back when it was a very warm weekend in Portland. Went for a walk on the waterfront with the rest of the population of Portland. Holy smokes it was crowded and mostly over-stimulating. But still fun to walk around on a beautiful day!

I have been pinning on Pinterest for over a year now girls wearing crop tops with cute skirts on or jeans. I have been wrestling with the crop-top for awhile now debating it's level of appropriateness. However considering it is being strutted on the Red Carpet, in Weddings and in every Magazine I felt it was time to cave. Ok fine, if you want to look at it like I succumbed to peer pressure you can go ahead and do that. I will choose to look at it as though I am young-ish keeping up with the hipsters. I will always have this photo to look back on someday when I force my children to admire how cool their mom was... I mean is... yikes. (Side Note: don't get me started on my personal opinion of what kind of mom I will be. Another story for another day). I also have a strong feeling I will somehow force them to read all of my blogs... also a story for another time. Anywayssss.... I knew if I was going to do the crop top look and feel confident I would start at Nordstrom and see what they had to offer. This top by "Lush" (my FAVORITE brand) nailed it. Of course it comes in other colors and I just bought it last month so they still might have some!

But really I am here to say to heck with the haters and judgers (not a word..?) Not only is it 2015 where apparently crop-tops are everywhere, but YOLO right? So if you have been wrestling with the crop-top like I had been, just know you have my support. Wear what you want to wear, and remember my motto: YOU CAN WEAR ANYTHING AS LONG AS YOU WEAR IT WITH CONFIDENCE!

OOTD- Outfit of the Day

Shirt, Skirt: H&M; Necklace: Charming Charlies; Heels: Brain fart on the name but from Nordstrom Rack

Really working on stepping up my professional dress game. You know when you see the people (especially speaking of women) who just look so nice in their business attire. You think to yourself, "Man they really nailed that outfit." I get this envy inside of me that strives harder to nail my professional game. The "put-together, well accessorized, I feel appropriate but at the same time could meet a friend for a drink after look." I'm beginning to understand that it really is more like one nice piece at a time that you begin to build this wardrobe. I have a few dress pants that I feel confident in, but nothing makes me feel more confident than a cute top with a pencil skirt. I have found that H&M actually has some really great pencil skirts in many different colors and they fit great, are good quality and are very reasonably priced. I have definitely started leaning more towards my shopping at Nordstrom just because the quality is so much higher and they last longer and look nicer, but you can find some really important pieces at a cheaper price too if you just know where to look.

P.S Stay tuned for some exciting news I have to share probably later this week or early next week!! Comment below if you want to guess what it is I have to share!!
